• Restaurant Designs - You can find beautiful design anywhere. Restaurants are no exception. There is endless inspiration when I walk into a well-designed restaurant. In addition to the creative menus, I am always drawn to the skillfully executed design elements and charming details. Even though it’s a restaurant, there are brilliant ideas to incorporate into the residential design work we do for our clients! Here are some favorite pics from a recent trip I took to California. It’s from a resort called Terranea in Palos Verdes, CA. Below is the Catalina Kitchen. In LOVE with this tile and copper stove hood! I also love how they incorporated a homey feel with the wood shelves that are decorated with artwork and accessories that you would see in someone’s kitchen.     Pull up a chair! A gorgeous, half-back, basketweave barstool, that is. Notice the white brick, beautiful countertop and convenient hook for your purse. Best detail…the beautiful cement tile accent at the base! Charming details: Elongated subway tile and wood cutting boards. I especially love the white brick mixed with the warm wood tones. The baskets displayed in the open shelving above the bar are a creative way to fill the space while maintaining an open feel. And here you see some fun light fixtures that add a bit a glam to an organic, fresh dining space. Bravo, Terranea Resorts! Can’t wait to dine with you again and enjoy your lovely space! (Photo from terranea.com/palos-verdes-restaurants) We also have noteworthy dining spaces in our very own Twin Cities! Hewing Hotel’s Tullibee Restaurant This space was formerly a farm implement showroom! With high ceilings, exposed timber and brick, this restaurant used high-end interiors to create a warm and classic aesthetic. My […]
  • Gender Reveal Room Make-over - Can you keep a secret? If so, gender reveal parties can be so exciting! There are so many fun ways to announce the sweet arrival, whether it be with confetti, cake, balloons, pinatas, cards, candy … you name it! Whatever the way, we promise you’ve not heard of THIS particular type of gender reveal before: A Gender Reveal Room Make-Over! Our client received an envelope from her doctor revealing the child’s gender. Rather than take a peek, our client gave the envelope to US! We were the only ones who knew the gender, and we were honored to be in charge of such valuable information. This was the first time we were able to do a Gender Reveal Project, and we were so excited! We created two different design boards for our client – a girl nursery and a boy nursery. Our client reviewed them both and gave her approval. On the day of our client’s scheduled C-section, we got to work. We had a mere 48 hour window to put everything together. It was a whirlwind. We scheduled the painter, followed in quick succession by the wallpaper installation. Next it was time to hang the draperies, followed by accessories, décor, and all the final styling details. The two days came and went very quickly! When our client went into the hospital for her C-section, she came home two days later to a completed and styled nursery.   And don’t forget, her darling baby boy. We think he approves! It’s fair to say, he’s our cutest client yet!
  • 2017 Color of the Year: Pantone Greenery and Benjamin Moore Shadow - Each year, designers await with much anticipation the announcement of the Color of the Year from Pantone and Benjamin Moore. Pantone chooses a color each year that it expects to dominate fashion, products, design and life, as well as reflect current moods or sentiments, CNN Money reports. This year, Pantone selected Greenery as the 2017 Color of the Year!  The company describes it as a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” It is a symbol of new beginnings.   We are excited to see this revitalizing and refreshing shade. You may wonder how to decorate with this hue in your home. Greenery can be a versatile shade, lending itself to many color combinations. You can pair it with neutral shades, bright colors, deep shades, and metallic. Below are other ways to incorporate this strong color into your space: 1) Incorporate splashes or pops of Greenery to create an overall cohesive look. If you want a warmer look, use tans and browns. Here are a few wonderful accessories we have in the store to incorporate into your room: Green Berry Ball $22.50/ea   Decorative Georgi Box $18.00   2) Incorporate this color in floral designs! Use a white container to create a clean, fresh look. You can also incorporate greenery through topiaries, accessories, or fun plants, all of which are sold at our store! Faux Greenery, Plands & Herbs   3) Want a quick, easy way to use this shade without breaking the bank? Keep your table linens white, but add green napkins, table cloths or table runners for minimal cost. 4) Don’t forget pillows. One of the easiest ways to introduce Greenery […]
  • After: South West view of the Living Room {PROJECT REVEAL} TOWNHOUSE TURNAROUND – COMFY TO CHIC! - We are excited to feature our designer Brittany Meidinger’s townhouse transformation in this month’s blog! Here’s what Brittany had to share about this project: This latest project was done for my client, Becky, who recently moved into this townhome. Her goal was to make it more unique to her taste by incorporating shades of gray, glam and vintage pieces. She wanted to create a feminine space that is both comfortable for her and her dogs as well as a great spot for entertaining. Becky was a dream to work with! She rarely questioned my ideas or direction. Becky and I developed a great friendship as we created a space unique to her. I really do get the most joy from meeting and working with my clients. Becky was no exception! We decided the design direction would be an eclectic mix of vintage, rustic & glam. Although we did this project all at one time, we wanted it to feel as though it was collected over time. Becky had several existing vintage pieces we incorporated in the new design. I love the challenge of working with items that a client loves and has meaning to them! Living Room The first thing we did was re-paint the yellow walls! We gave the entire room a refresh just by adding a soft warm gray paint color to the walls (Requisite Gray, Sherwin Williams). This gave us a beautiful neutral space to work our magic in!   We replaced the carpet with dark hardwood flooring. This opens up the space and provides a beautiful rich warm tone to the room. Now it was time to dress our room! We started by anchoring the sitting space with a large scale simple […]
  • Dining Room After - 2 {DESIGNER PROFILE} KELSEY FEATURES A BEAUTIFUL INTERIOR REFRESH VS. REMODEL - Meet our Designer Kelsey Gray! Kelsey has been with Interior Impressions for 3 years.  We are thrilled to feature Kelsey and one of her current projects in this month’s blog! Kelsey, where did you grow up? I was born in St Paul and grew up in Arden Hills How many siblings do you have? I have one older sister, Jena Are you married or single?  Children? I am single and no children. What inspired you to pursue a career as an Interior Designer? I’ve always been interested in interior design. I was always rearranging my bedroom growing up. My parents are both in creative fields, so it’s always been a part of my life. I didn’t really have an “ah ha” moment. I believe it was just sewn into me from the beginning! What makes you unique or in other words how do you stand out in a room full of interior designers? Most people don’t fall into one design style. They like a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Often it’s when they’ve gotten frustrated trying to mix styles on their own that they seek our help as designers. I can’t even count how many times I’ve told clients that they are not alone! There is a fine line between hodgepodge and eclectic. I’m here to keep you on the eclectic side of that line! Anyone can go into a furniture store and buy a matching room set. That’s no fun! Who wants to live in a furniture showroom? I ask lots of questions to get to the root of what my clients want both functionally and aesthetically. From there, I put a mix together that tells their story.  I resonate […]
